Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management

To support teaching, learning, research and development, the Department has state-of-the-art computing facilities. The Department has a team of knowledgeable and helpful technical and administrative staff, to provide the needed support and service to our students and faculty. The Department maintains PCs and workstations fully linked by networks. These include 450 PCs (including the latest Core 2 Duo machines) and 55 Sun UltraSPARC Workstations. We are also equipped with several powerful UltraSPARC, x86 servers and Fibre Channel RAID storages to build up our Storage Area Network (SAN) environment, 2 Sun Fire V490 and 2 V440 servers running Sun Cluster, 1 Sun Ultra Enterprise E4500 server, 1 Sun Ultra Enterprise workgroup server E450, other Sun Fire series including 2 V490, 3 V245, 2 X4100 and 1 V20z.

We provide a wide spectrum of application as well as research software. UNIX-based software include:

the latest UNIX operating systems (Solaries10 and Linux);

mathematical tools such as Matlab;

databases such as Oracle, DB2;

expert systems tools such as Clips, Lisp and Prolog;

data warehouse tools such as IBM Data Mining tools, Clementine;

optimization/statistical tools such as CPlex, SAS, SPSS, S-PLUS;

human interface tools such as HTK/ESPS;

programming systems such as C, C++ and JAVA;

ERP system such as SAP; and

RFID System such as Sun Java System RFID software.

On the PC side, we have Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000, Windows Vista/XP, MS Office Professional, MS FrontPage, MS Project, MS Publisher, MS SQL Server, MS Visio, MS Visual Studio, Macromedia Flash, Dreamwaver, MapInfo, MapX, Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional, WinA&D, ProModel, SAS, Matlab, Clementine, AIMMS, Corel Office, CorelDraw, AutoMod and many more.
